Traveling Tips for Severe Weather

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

There is a lot of forethought that goes into a trip. You think about packing, plane tickets, travel time, what to do when you arrive. However, sometimes Mother Nature can spoil even the best travel plans. Thankfully, you can take steps to prevent her spoiling the vacation you worked so hard for. Weather can affect you on every level. From what you bring, to what you buy, to what you do after you arrive, to even arriving or leaving on time. It can also affect the vehicle you rent or take around. The following are a few helpful tips you can utilize to help ensure that the elements have very little negative affect on your trip.

First and foremost, try going during the most temperate time of the year. If you plan on traveling north, try to go in the summer, or spring. If you are traveling south, fall or even winter are pretty safe bets. You can also familiarize yourself with the weather patterns of the area you are going to. If you are going to Arizona or New Mexico, check to see if its monsoon season or if there is a dart currently taking place. If you are going to a place like New York or Chicago during the winter, check the snow patterns. Some places have consistent snowfall through the entire winter, starting either before you expect or ending long after.

You can also pack to prepare, just in case the weather takes a turn for the worse. Normally you can buy whatever you need at your destination but a little forethought will help you avoid those unnecessary costs. Packing a heavy coat for winter states or a couple umbrellas for rainy states will go a long way in making sure you stay happy and you can spend your money on something you want rather than something you'll end up needing.

Something else to consider is where you are staying. Make sure the hotel you are staying at is up to date and centrally located to the places you'd like to go. There are few things worse on a trip than having to spend it cooped up in four walls because a hurricane or blizzard suddenly hit. You can also rent a certain type of vehicle to help with your destination and needs. An SUV will come in handy if you are going somewhere that might have conditions that affect the road.

Finally, try and reach out to any local people in the area. They can sometimes be much more helpful than any website or television forecast. Your rental car company or hotel concierge should be able to provide you with a first-hand account of what you can expect weather-wise for your vacation. So, remember: research the area you are traveling to. Pack a light jacket, sensible shoes or a pair of ponchos. Look into your hotel location and accommodations and make sure your mode of transportation can handle most inclement weather. If you follow these simple tips, you should be ready for anything!

3 Tips to Transforming Your Room With Color

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

With these painting tips you can transform a room with color and accomplish it in a week.

Let color be your friend, do not fight it, but embrace color and use your imagination.

You may decide to paint just one accent wall or maybe the trim. Try painting the ceiling with some color it will make the room feel totally different.

1. Paint is very economic you can change the mood of a room by just by changing the color. Most rooms can be painted with 2 gallons or less. Paint is one of the cheapest way to transform a room from dull to elegant.

2. 50 Shades of gray more or less. Gray is very in and can vary how a room looks by what shade you use and where you decide to use it. Gray can vary from blue to green to brown. You can use your choice on the ceiling or all the walls or maybe just an accent wall. I would suggest getting a sample of your choice and painting a spot on the wall so you can see how this looks different times of the day. You could paint a piece of thin plywood or poster board different colors that you are favorite and hang them on the wall to see how the light at different times of the day affects them. One trick would be to paint in different shades of the same gray using dark on one wall with a lighter shade on the other.

3. Painting does not require a lot of tools or equipment to get started, You will need an angled brush for cutting in the edges, a roller, roller head, and a pole would be nice so you can reach to the ceiling. Also needed is a tray and a step ladder. Some tape and something to cover the floor. You should be able to complete your project in a weekend. Take your time and tape the trim and cover the floor and furniture with plastic. You can do the cutting in first or last just make sure you do not the painted area dry completely before finishing. It is always best to cut in when the paint is still damp.

Use your imagination and change the mood of the room to your taste. If you lack imagination for color look on the web for inspiration, ask a friend, or hire a designer.

Do not be afraid of color!

Microsoft Word Smart Quotes and Internet Article Writers Do not Mix

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

By default, Microsoft Word automatically changes straight quotation marks ('or') to curly (smart or typographer's) quotes as you type. to HTML, the quotes are converted to non-standard characters which end up littering your document with question mark symbols and / or other garbage code.

When in doubt, do not allow your Ezine Articles to contain smart quotes:

Most articles that are put into article distribution often end up being sent to an email newsletter audience. Email newsletter servers have near zero-tolerance for MS Word smart quotes; they will not recognize them as valid ASCII characters (because they are not valid). They are a figment of the Microsoft ASCII imagination. In most cases they will show up as garbage code; thus making you, and your article, look like a real novice lacking proper formatting skills.

At risk are: quotes, apostrophes, double dashes, and 3 periods in a row.

This is what smart quotes looks like when properly displayed:

smart quotes arent very smart

This is what STANDARD quotes looks like when properly displayed:

"smart quotes" are not very smart …

This is what smart quotes looks like when NOT properly displayed:

â Smart Quotesâ € ™ are not very smartâ|

Do you see the downside potential of leaving smart that put into distribution? Standard quotes use the lowest common denominator in the ASCII character standards world and this ensures that your articles will look great in any HTML or TEXT format.

How To Disable Microsoft Words Smart Quotes:

1. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options, then click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.

2. Under Replace as you type, select or clear the "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes" check box.

Alternately, you can copy your entire MS Word document over to a non Microsoft text editor (EditPlus, UltraEdit, TextPad, etc) and do a simple search and replace. Search and replace the smart quotes into standard quotes, apostrophes, dashes and dots if applicable.

Caution For Authors Who Do HTML Code For Their Articles in MS Word:

Unless you have smart quotes disabled, it should be noted that smart quotes are not valid HTML code. Therefore, dont even consider using MS Word to do HTML code unless you have the smart quotes feature disabled.

Article Marketing Smart Quotes Conclusion

Smart quotes are best left for e-books, physical books in print, PDF documents and any non-HTML related document. If you want to increase the portability of your EzineArticles, do the smart thing and turn off Microsoft Words smart quotes or do a search / replace before you upload your next article to the web.
